FONL Workroom

All donations to the Friends are processed by the volunteers in the FONL workroom in the Norman Central Library.  This presents a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. There is truly something for every level, from sitting quietly slipping or pricing books, to packing and receiving boxes of books and other materials. Whether you're able to come twice a week or once a month, we'd love to have you.
FONL workroom hours are:
Mondays from 5:30-8:00 (please text Jamie to make arrangements ahead of time)
Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm
Opportunities include:
  • Help to price and slip books 
  • Sorting (looking through the books and sorting them by category)
  • Packing boxes (once they've been sorted, to be recorded and potentially stored)
  • Help with bookstore shelves (restocking sale shelves, straightening up, shelving books)
  • Pricing books (using online websites to determine a book's value)
  • Receiving books for donation (doing triage on books that come in, organizing, picking up boxes)

Board of Directors

The FONL Board of Directors seeks members committed to promoting public libraries and literacy in our community. The board meets four times a year on Monday evenings.  
Opportunities include:
  • Officer positions 
  • Specialty areas (PR, newsletter, membership, scholarship, etc.)
  • Helping with the book sale committee (planning and evaluating book sale operations, including bookstore)
  • Volunteering at special sales

Have a special skill?  Need experience?

Don't want to be a board member or regular volunteer, but still want to help?  There are plenty of tasks and little jobs that you could do that take minimal time. 
Opportunities include:
  • Putting together the newsletter
  • Helping with marketing materials (hanging up signs, getting the word out on websites)
  • Helping maintain FONL social media, including website
  • Minor book sale preparation (arranging for table delivery, arranging table layout, etc.)
  • Putting books out on sale shelves once a week or when needed
  • ​Donating nonperishable refreshments, bottled water, or sodas for volunteers during sales
